Today is #WorldDownSyndromeDay. While navigating the healcare system for a child with Down syndrome can be challenging, furthering research can help alleviate some of the uncertainty. Read more about how the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is continuing to update care recommendations for pediatricians and families. “Children with Down syndrome may have many co-occurring medical conditions and cognitive impairment. While the level of social-emotional functioning may vary, these skills may be improved with early intervention and therapy through early adulthood.” #Pediatrics #Pediatricians #PediatricPractice #DownSyndrome

I recently had the incredible opportunity to attend the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) national conference, which is renowned as one of the largest pediatrics conferences in the world. The conference kicked off with a truly inspiring speech by AAP President Benjamin Hoffman. He beautifully intertwined personal and professional experiences to emphasize the crucial role that pediatricians play in shaping the future for generations to come, despite the challenges they face. Pediatricians are like superheroes, and it is essential for them to raise their voices to ensure that decisions prioritize children's health.Throughout the conference, numerous sessions reiterated the importance of pediatricians being present in the media, including social media. One quote from an awarded pediatrician stood out: "We often discuss the risks of speaking in media, but we rarely consider the risks of NOT speaking. We have a choice - either staying comfortable and avoiding controversy, or actively participating in discussions and shaping the future."In addition to the clinical sessions, the conference also highlighted the presence of gen AI (Artificial Intelligence) in pediatrics. Professor Suresh from Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh provided excellent examples of how gen AI can assist pediatricians in their clinical practice, research, and daily lives. His perspective of considering the "A" in gen AI as both Augmented Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence was thought-provoking.Attending this conference was truly enlightening, and it reinforced the importance of pediatricians being advocates for children's health, embracing media platforms, and embracing the potential of gen AI in their field. Together, we can shape a brighter future for pediatric healthcare. #AAPConference #Pediatrics #Advocacy
